17.5. Comparison of Abbreviated Breed Standards
According to the ADBA, UKC and ABKC, the following comparison is of the “breed standards” for the dogs that they consider and registered as “American Pit Bull Terriers”. “Pit Bulls”, “American Bullys”, etc. to the American Staffordshire Terrier (“AmStaff”) breed standards of the American Kennel Club (“AKC”).
Note that ADBA, UKC and ABKC register AmStaffs as “American Pit Bulls”, and all other “registries”, that I have researched, will register the dog as “American Pit Bull Terriers”. “Pit Bulls”, “American Bullys”, etc. based on the ADBA, UKC and ABKC registrations. Consequently, all of the other “registries” that I have researched, in essence, are accepting the ADBA, UKC and ABKC “breed standards” as the basis for the registrations in their organizations.

According to the “Pit Bull registries”, all of the “standards” above are for the same “breed” of dog. Why aren’t all of them the same?
Why does the ADBA have the disclaimer that states, “This breed standard is not a breed identifier”?
Don’t the breed standards define and identify the breeds?
Isn’t that their purpose and objective?
Why is it that only the AKC had breed standards in 1936, i.e., when it recognized the American Staffordshire Terrier as a “breed”, but the other clubs didn’t have any until much later, i.e., ADBA in 1976 even though the ADBA was started in September 1909, UKC in 2012 even though the “breed” was “recognized” in 1898 and ABKC in 2014 even though the “breed” was “recognized” in 2004?
How can you recognize a “breed” if it hasn’t been defined, i.e., you don’t know what it is suppose to look like or be: there is no “breed standard”?
It appears that the breed is being defined, by registries/clubs other than the American Kennel Club, by a breed standard that is suppose to correspond to dogs of the alleged “breed” that have already been registered long before the “breed standard” was established, i.e., wait for the egg to hatch, and if it looks like a duck, create a “breed standard” that describes the characteristics of a duck, even if it is being called a chicken. Is the animal then a chicken because a “registry” says so?
