12.2. Selected Dog Breeds With Classification and
Standards – February 4, 2013

On May 5, 2015, I returned to the above referenced web site to verify the weight of the American Staffordshire Terrier. I found that it had changed from what is in the following chart to 40 to 60 lbs. which I don’t know if that is supposed to be the male or female weight or the weight of any AmStaff. When I originally did this chart, the female weight was 40 to 65 lbs. The dogs that I have known as AmStaffs have been female 40 to 65 lbs. and males 70 to 94 lbs.

There are approximately 494 breeds of dogs that are recognized by the various domestic and international kennel clubs. However, the identity of those breeds is based on the owners’ claims.

The following are those breeds that are relevant to this discussion and were found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dog_breeds in 2013.

At the present time, there is no foolproof way to identify the breed of a dog. DNA only establishes the parentage, i.e., whether a dog is the offspring of two particular parents. It cannot determine the breed.
